Director and Co-founder
Passionate, strategic and dynamic, I focus on delivering social change through research, evaluation and strategic planning. With a background in research and a passionate belief in social justice, I combine the rigour and quality of research with a participative approach. I love working with people to shape their strategy so that they can deliver maximum impact, through new projects, improving systems or building capacity.
Prior to Northern Star, I honed my skills and knowledge with three amazing organisations – Young Scot, the Scottish Youth Parliament and Save the Children. I am a member of the Social Research Association and holder of the MRS Advanced Certificate in Social and Market Research.
When not working on Northern Star, I am mostly found cycling and running round the hills of East Lothian.
Director and Co-founder
My background is in working really hard with committed people to deliver change. I’m skilled in project management and in training others, but my heart is in working participatively – facilitating groups of ordinary, extraordinary people to make a real difference to the world. I’ve learnt enormous amounts through working with Oxfam, in Community Learning and Development, and at the Big Lottery Fund, and through this I’ve developed pragmatism, a keen listening ear and an ability to involve others and enable them to make change happen. I love innovating new projects, taking responsibility for good people, scarce resources and important tasks, and above all I want to see people empowered to make a difference about the things that matter to them.
Highly motivated with a proven track record of delivering outcomes, I am drawn towards projects which put people’s rights at the heart of practise. With a background in youth and community work, I have worked on a wider range of participation and social research projects in Scotland and the wider UK. A diplomatic communicator, I am confident at engaging with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and always work in a person-centred manner. I operate from the premise that for change to happen, people have to understand and own the process.
I am a natural organiser with experience in project management and my practise is based on solid academic foundations, as well as practical experience.
I am an Associate with Northern Star, which I combine with working part time for the Scottish Human Rights Commission and sitting on the Edinburgh Children’s Panel. I love the arts and cherish the opportunities to mix my creative passions with work.
